## What is Strain?

A strain is an injury to a muscle or tendon caused by overstretching or overuse.

A strain is a common soft tissue injury characterized by damage to muscles or tendons due to overstretching or excessive use. Strains typically occur during physical activity or lifting heavy objects and may cause pain, swelling, and limited movement in the affected area. First aid for strains focuses on reducing pain and inflammation while promoting recovery.

Initial management includes rest, ice application, compression with an elastic bandage, and elevation of the injured limb. These measures help alleviate symptoms and prevent further strain. Gentle stretching and strengthening exercises may be recommended during recovery to restore muscle flexibility and function. Monitoring the casualty for signs of worsening pain or decreased mobility guides ongoing care and ensures appropriate management.

## First Aid for Strains

1. Rest: Avoid activities that cause pain.
2. Ice: Apply ice packs to reduce swelling and pain.
3. Compression: Use an elastic bandage to support the muscle.
4. Elevation: Keep the injured area elevated to reduce swelling.
